Penobsquis, New Brunswick

For New Brunswick hog producer Stephen Moffett, farming has long been a way of life. He has been in the hog business since 1973, and over the years, has seen his family’s 2,600-sow operation, Moffett Farms, grow to include three sites comprised of sow barns, a nursery, and feeder barns. His operation benefits from its involvement with the CQA® on-farm food safety program, something that he firmly believes in.

Stephen has been a CQA®-recognized producer since 2002. He feels the program is a valuable tool for hog producers, and helps demonstrate to his customers what he is doing on-farm to promote the production of safe, wholesome pork.

“CQA® is a good way to document what we are already doing on-farm. It’s a way to show our customers that we are doing the things we are supposed to be doing. From that point of view, the program is definitely working,” he adds.

Stephen feels that all farms should be on the CQA® program. He works alongside his 25-person staff, his wife Marlene, and other family members to make sure that customers at home and abroad can feel more secure about their purchase of wholesome Canadian pork.“CQA® is an excellent way to assure ourselves and our customers that we are employing sound food safety practices on-farm. People want to know that they are buying top quality product. It just makes good business sense to be on the program,” he adds. “CQA® shows our commitment to food safety.”
