To say that Nathalie Arès is very involved in agriculture would be an understatement.

In addition to her role in the “Comité naisseur” (Committee of hog producers specialized in farrow production) for the region of St-Hyacinthe, Quebec, as a Director for COMAX, a regional agricultural co-op, and as a participant in her region’s “Valorisation de la profession” (Valuing the Farming Profession) Committee, she has owned and operated her farm, Ferme Mari-Na Porc inc., with her husband in the community of Saint-Liboire since 1992.

Nathalie has been involved with the CQA® program since 2001, and feels the program offers some real advantages for Quebec producers. “I think the CQA® program is very positive for our industry, because it shows our customers what we are doing on-farm.”

She adds, “Many of the things the program requires, we were already doing and documenting. CQA® provides us with a more systematic way, with a template to follow, to demonstrate to our customers that we are committed to food safety. ”

Nathalie strongly encourages anyone who is not yet on the program to get involved. “It’s important to have everyone on the program,” she asserts. “Our participation in CQA® proves to our customers, at home and abroad, that we are committed to producing safe, high-quality pork. I think the majority of Quebec producers are now following, or are getting involved with the program. We’re definitely heading in the right direction.”
